Tips: Global English Terms

Tags: , ,

Enrolment - acceptance on the course is at the discretion of the Course Director. Should an applicant be deemed unsuitable, prospective students can expect an explanation and a full refund of the course fee.

Postage costs - Global English accepts the postage costs for all outbound mail. Outside the UK, Global English makes a £20 delivery charge on all postal courses. There are no postal charges within the UK for any correspondence course. Additionally there are no postal charges on any course conducted via e-mail. Postage to Global English and any additional costs in contacting us (e.g. telephoning or faxing) are met by the student. Additionally, Global English may recommend the purchase of some books for help with the course and beyond. The student meets the costs of book purchase although our recommended reading list is kept to a minimum.

Method of payment - Students pay at point of sale by sending card details through our secure server.  For Credit Cards there is a 2.5% surcharge. Alternatively, payment can be made by Sterling cheque or bank transfer. There is a £12 surcharge for international bank transfers.

Cooling off period - Students may return the course to Global English within 14 days of the date on the receipt (21 days for postal courses outside of the EU.) Students can expect a full refund without stating a reason for the return. However, the course must be returned to us in good order so that it may be resold by us. The student meets the cost of returning the course to Global English.

Personal Tutor - access to a personal tutor is provided for help with the course. The personal tutor can be contacted by phone/fax or e-mail. The personal tutor is responsible for the marking and grading all work and for the written course assessment.

Receiving your course - correspondence: after processing your enrolment and payment, Global English will send the course on the same day or the next working day. If a correspondence option has been chosen, modules 1 and 2 of the course will be sent by 1st class recorded delivery or international recorded delivery, as appropriate. The package will also contain the contact details of the personal tutor, a receipt detailing the amount paid (including VAT, if appropriate) type of course, date, student’s name and unique reference number and details of the cooling off period.

Receiving your course - e-mail: if an e-mail option has been chosen, you will receive the 1st two answer booklets direct by e-mail to the e-mail address as specified on the application form. You will receive e-mail confirmation of your order, and information of how to download the study booklets from our website. You will also be sent contact details of your personal tutor. Please note the system requirements for conducting any course via email: Internet access, a floppy disk on which to download the study booklets and Microsoft Word ‘97 or higher. A receipt will be sent separately by post. This will contain the amount paid (including VAT, if appropriate) date, type of course, student’s name and unique reference number and details of the cooling off period.

Marking and Grading - Students return their responses for marking and grading to the main address (listed in 1 above). Their tutor sends the marked work back with the next module to be completed. A final grade is awarded based on the total average module grades. Grades given are either A, B or pass. The personal tutor reserves the right to withhold a grade on a module where sufficient learning has not been demonstrated. In this case, students may be asked to rewrite their answers so a grade can be awarded. We are an independent company and all marking, grading and assessment is done in-house.

Course Completion and Certificate - We allow students up to a maximum of 18 months to complete the course. On successful completion of our TESOL certificate or TESOL certificate with business, students will receive the appropriate Global English certificate and a progress report written by your personal tutor. An ACTDEC certificate will also be sent for this course separately. Introductory course students will obtain a Global English introductory course certificate. Teaching business English foundation course students will receive a Teaching business English foundation course certificate from Global English.

Work opportunities - Global English students are teaching worldwide. However, successful completion of our courses does not guarantee employment.

Data Protection - Global English is registered with the Data Protection Agency. To facilitate certain tasks and communication between ourselves and our students, we store some details about enquirers and students electronically. These include contact details, grades obtained on any Global English course and details of email correspondence. However, this is strictly for use by Global English only and details will not be released to third parties. If you have chosen to pay via email using the secure web site, note that we do not store debit or credit card details on our databases. We employ firewall and computer virus protection and take all possible steps to safeguard personal data. Corresponding with Global English by email is seen as acceptance of our data protection policy. Please be aware that we cannot be held responsible for the content, procedures or data policies of websites that we may have links with.

Complaints procedure - If you have any complaint about any aspect of the service you receive from Global English, please put your complaint in writing to the Course Director, and send to Global English, 1st floor, 5 Charlotte Mews, Pavilion Place, Exeter, EX2 4HA, UK . All complaints received in this form are recorded and processed by the department responsible.

Global English and English law - Global English is a partnership that resides in the UK and is subject to English law. Transacting with Global English is seen as acceptance of the terms and conditions here stated and, should a dispute arise, any proceedings are to be conducted in the UK and are to be subject to English law.

Dear Sir/Madam,

CV as follows:

I obtained my PGCE in Post-Compulsory Education (PCE) at Oxford Brookes University (2005), and have a BA (Hons) in Music Industry Management gained in 2000 at BCUC. I also completed my Trinity Cert. My one year teaching placement for my PGCE qualification,(Post-Compulsory Education), involved teaching the music and media business units on a Popular Music National Diploma course at Oxford and Cherwell College. I also assisted with the development of the curriculum within the Media and Performing Arts department and was involved in various other teaching duties, including work with students on a one-to-one basis helping individuals with specific learning needs. I continued my teaching duties for several months after my qualification, employed on a variable hours part-time contract.

In the summer of 2005 I was employed by Sprake School, Spain, teaching English to all levels of learners, in summer 2004, I was employed at Hello English School in Llanes, Spain, for 8 weeks, teaching English to children aged 7 to 14.
