::What is a TEFL Taster Day?

It’s a day of planned activities and training to give people more advice, skills and information regarding TEFL training and teaching. The actual day usually starts around 9:30, ends at about 4pm, and they are usually held on Saturdays.

::Who does a TEFL Taster Day?

Most people who book themselves onto TEFL Taster Days have a vague idea that they want to teach in a particular country, but have no idea what to expect, how to go about it and what qualifications they need to teach. We’d like our clients to finish the day knowing that teaching is/isn’t for them and have a clear idea of what they need to do to get qualified and find a job. From your point of view, it’s a great way to market your CELTA courses, as there will be lots of potential applicants who will hopefully want to go on and do a CELTA course at your school.

::How to promote your CELTA course during the Taster Day?

To ensure that trainees will come back and apply for your CELTA course, Taster Day providers usually offer vouchers to clients that will allow them to claim a fee off their CELTA course, should they apply and be accepted. The amount is at your discretion.

I have recently completed an intensive Italian language teaching course with four weeks training based on the communicative approach that encourages the use of the four integrated skills, i.e. speaking, writing, reading and listening.

During the course I have developed familiarity with the principles of effective teaching and acquired a range of practical skills for teaching my language to adult learners, on a one to one basis or to classes of up to 15 students of mixed abilities at beginner, intermediate and advanced level.

I am familiar with the selection of learning materials having used a wide range of authentic material to improve comprehension, and I would also encourage a vivid, motivated and comfortable atmosphere, debating on current affairs or any other topic that could keep high the learners interest and paying particular attention to accuracy and use of appropriate registers in speaking and writing.

I have also gained teaching experience having given private tuitions (individual or in small groups) to secondary school students for several years and having taught Italian to adults on a voluntary work program.

I am immediately available for any work placement or project.
