Qualified and suitably experienced to work in a variety of fields. Main spheres of activity include translating (French - English), teaching English and music.

Seeking to settle into a more permanent situation.

Translating.

-         2006 - BP Algeria. (Under contract to “Empower”) At a gas extraction site in the Sahara desert (called “In Amenas”). Duties included delivering a health and safety course in French to native Algerians, translating safety documents (safety procedures etc), as well as acting as an interpreter in meetings/conversations.

-         2005 - 2006 - Stereoblast Records (Paris). Translating record sleeve blurbs, press releases, legal documents (the latter in layman’s terms).

Teaching English (see extra information)

Wide ranging experience spanning 10 years. Business English, Academic English (EAP), IELTS, Cambridge 1st certificate, etc, grammar, conversation. Experience of teaching all levels of ability. Exceptionally good feedback from students - appreciated for patience, energy, enthusiaism, humour and an ability to create a good learning environment. Also taught French (Derby).

-         UK universities: Loughborough, Aston, Derby.

-         French Colleges (both at Higher Education and Further Education level): Edhec, Espeme, Ipag (all in Nice), Institut Stanislas (Cannes).

Music

Composer and instrumentalist (saxophone).

Composed and produced music featured in various ghost DVDs presented by local historian and TV personality Richard Felix. (Produced by Film Studios, Duffield, Derbyshire). Also worked on soundtrack to one of the same producer’s football DVDs. This experience could easily be adapted to produce music for corporate events/presentations etc, at a more reasonable rate than that charged for library music. Uses top quality equipment (Apple “Macbook” computer with twin intel processor) and top professional music software (Logic 7 pro).

As a saxophonist, has played a wide range of musical styles, including Jazz in various genres, different kinds of “Latin”, Rockabilly, Blues and straight ahead rock. All of this in a variety of venues all around the world (UK, Japan, Canada, USA and all over continental Europe including Scandinavia). The list includes Olympia and Zenith in Paris, playing live on Radio France (France Inter), Zurich Volkshaus and the Montreux Jazz Festival. Has also made a variety of recordings, mainly for dance labels in recent years.

Qualifications

1985 BA (Hons) Arts and Social Sciences (English/History). University of Salford.

1996 RSA Cambridge Certificate TEFL.

Languages

French (fluent).

Italian, German and Swiss German (conversation - stretches to organising gigs/ emails/ social conversation).

Miscellaneous

Two years living in Zurich, Switzerland, more than seven in Nice, France, as well as spells in Paris and Italy (Savonna). Able therefore to draw on a cultural understanding based on direct experience, as opposed to being simply a linguist. A good geographical knowledge also.
